Research

Guaruma Research is a branch of the project dedicated to biological research. We work to better document the flora and fauna of Pico Bonito National Park. Guaruma supports and participates in nature conservation efforts in the Cangrejal River watershed specializing in three main areas:

  • Baseline research of the biodiversity status in the east side of Pico Bonito National Park
  • Tropical forest ecology (including field practice)
  • Watershed and water quality for human consumption

The results of our research have been used to create media campaigns and produce materials for our education program and tour guide training.

For our biological research projects, Guaruma works in cooperation with both foreign universities and Honduran universities such as CURLA, UTH and Catholic University as well as environmental organizations such as USAID-MIRA, the US Forest Service, SERNA, and FUNAPIB.

Students, scientists, and volunteers wanting to do research or looking to support a project are always welcome.
