Saturday February 17th Fabrizio and Chris supervised 16 Guaruma students on a trip to the insect museum in La Ceiba and Sambo Creek. At the museum Mr. Robert Lehman gave a talk about the importance of insects and world’s various species of bugs. We learned that cockroaches can survive 40 days without food and that butterflies use their antennae to find flowers and fruit.
After this talk, we went to the Sambo Creek Community Center for lunch and a discussion of Garifuana culture led by Mr. Edgar Blanco of Sambo Creek. Mr. Blanco spoke about the different languages that resemble the Garifuana language and their different types of music.
After lunch, the students took photos on the beach, played football, and went swimming in the sea.
